On July 8th 2014, my cousin, Courtney Patterson was stricken with a severe case of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). GBS is a disorder in which the body’s immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system. This disorder left her on a ventilator for a month and paralyzed. With the help of therapists and doctors, she has been able to slowly regain her breathing and a little bit of movement in her limbs. She has been moved to a facility near home after being in another one in Columbus, OH. Her prognosis is good and we are hopeful she’ll recover, but this journey will be a long one. If you want to help her family out (including her two year old son), please consider making a small donation here.
